VO2max & Lactate Threshold Testing

Using a bike, treadmill, or rower we complete a protocol designed to gradually increase exercise intensity from low to maximal while measuring the following physiologic variables:

  • Blood Lactate Accumulation

  • Volume of Oxygen Consumption (VO2)

  • Heart Rate

  • Ventilation

  • Breathing Frequency

  • Caloric Expenditure

  • Metabolic Efficiency

Information you receive from testing:

  • VO2max: a measure of cardiorespiratory and metabolic fitness. This metric reveals how well your body can transport oxygen from environmental air to working muscle.

  • Lactate & Ventilatory Thresholds: our physiologic thresholds determined by blood lactate and ventilatory data are used to set training zones and make informed decisions on what to focus on in training.

  • Training Zones: both heart rate and pacing zones are set using testing data. Pacing zones may be expressed as power (W) on the bike or running pace (min/mile) (i.e. marathon pace).

  • Sports Nutrition: learn how many calories you burn while exercising at various exercise intensities. Use this information to design a fueling strategies for training and racing.

  • Expert Advice: using this information from testing, you can take out the guess work and learn what you need to focus on with your training to get the results you are looking for!

    • Recommended for most accurate testing results

  • Lactate Threshold Test: 150$

    • Used for setting heart rate and pacing zones

    • Reveals insight into metabolic efficiency & athlete subtype
      (fast twitch or slow twitch dominant).

  • VO2max Test: 150$

    • Used for setting heart rate and pacing zones

    • Provides data on caloric expenditure (kcal/hr, CHO vs. FAT oxidation rates), respiratory function (minute ventilation, breathing frequency, tidal volume), & measures VO2max.
